Test possibilities Degenerative Myelopathy

There are several labs that offer the DNA test for Degenerative Myelopathy.
In practice it has proved that the test results are the most reliable, when the test was conducted by a veterinarian on the basis of decreased EDTA blood!

This lab offer also the possibility to mention on a test certificate when sampling was performed in presence of a witness. The procedure is indicated as ‘Witness Sampling Statement’. The witness confirms, during the sampling procedure, the link between the sample information and the actual sample by filling out the form "Witness Sampling Statement’.

Method:

  1. Download the blood sample form and print 
  2. Download the form Witness Sampling Statement and print 
  3. Enter your own data and that of the dog as completely as possible, cross the desired analysis and sign the form
  4. Take the two forms and a copy of the pedigree to the vet
  5. The veterinarian verifies the identity of the dog (checks the chip and pedigree), takes 2 ml EDTA, fills the form and signs the Witness Sampling Statement
  6. The two forms and the EDTA blood sample will be sent to the address indicated on the form
  7. After testing, you will receive the results of the test(s) and the bill by post
